The Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy has charged WaarborgHolland B.V. with carrying out the Hallmarking Act (Waarborgwet). The objectives of this act are:

  1. To protect consumers against fraud;
  2. To protect businesses against unfair competition.

To protect consumers and businesses, precious metal items are tested for legally recognised finenesses before they are offered for sale. Both businesses and private individuals can submit precious metal items for assaying.

WaarborgHolland is accredited by the RvA (Dutch Accreditation Council) under ISO/IEC 17025 (the criteria for laboratories), no. L 210, and ISO/IEC 17020 (the criteria for inspection bodies), no. I 030.
